The San Diego Association of Yacht Clubs was founded for the purpose of fostering and encouraging participation in yachting and to promote its public interest in the San Diego Area. The Association’s officers and directors are chosen from the ranks of past commodores of its member clubs. I look forward to working with an exceptional board this year. |
The association provides a forum from which its members can exchange ideas, coordinate activities, and foster fellowship in the boating community. We take an active role in providing input to local and state governments on matters of interest to the boating community. Our association members are proud to take a proactive role on
boating safety by offering both boating-safety and first aid classes.
Our Association member clubs offer Junior Sailing Programs that include sailing lessons and on-water safety training. These programs are available to non-members as well as members. Member clubs hold annual events, including fundraising for charities, which benefit the community at large. Please see the special insert in this year’s calendar outlining the many charity events and regattas this year that give back to our community. I am currently putting together a team comprised of IOBG members for the April 29th Amazing Race charity event in Coronado that benefits the Make-A-Wish foundation.
Each year the Association recognizes members of the boating community.
We reward these outstanding individuals by presenting the following:
* Yachtsman and Yachtswoman of the Year Awards are presented for outstanding achievement and participation in yachting.
* Paul J. Hartley Award recognizes a junior yachtsman or yachtswoman under the age of 18 for both service to the community and ability on the water.
* Alonzo De Jessop Award recognizes individuals for their service to the yachting community
* John M. Rumsey Award recognizes the individual achievements in yachting outside of San Diego County
This calendar is a collaboration of member clubs to develop a well-rounded calendar of events for sailboat and powerboat racers, charity regattas and public interest events. It is the result of many hard working volunteers and it has been a pleasure to work with them all.
This year San Diego will once again be blessed with hosting the America’s Cup World Series race. Come witness this rare opportunity to view the exciting new AC72 wing-sailed Catamarans as they race faster than the wind!
